Orthopedics - Eval and Treatment
Course Objectives
At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. perform a subjective examination and identify the nature, severity and
irritability of the patient's problem
2. perform an objective examination and identify musculo-skeletal
structures that require treatment or further examination; including
posture, articular, neurological, dural, compression, traction, arterial
patency and peripheral joint screening tests, layer and tenderness
palpation of articular and soft tissue structures
3. Analyze the examination data including relevant pathology to establish
the patient's problems
4. understand the process of wound repair and the principles of
physiotherapy in assisting this process
5. understand the principles of the effect and application of spinal
traction
6. identify the indications, and contraindications of manual and
mechanical spinal traction
7. understand the principles of the effect and application of spinal
exercises
8. identify the indications, and contraindications for a spinal orthotic
9. record examination data, problems, plans and procedures in a
standardized format
